For sessions to be offered at the 2023 PNBA Tradeshow
Thursday, September 21, 2023 * Holiday Inn on the Columbia, Portland, OR
The Pacific Northwest Booksellers Association will offer educational programming on the final day of its annual Tradeshow.
Our Education Committee will review proposals for educational presentations primarily aimed at retail booksellers, but will also gladly consider topics aimed at librarians, authors and small press publishers.
Ideally, proposed sessions will be designed to feature at least one PNBA member professional as a panelist or moderator. PNBA and its Education Committee may be able to assist in finding appropriate booksellers, authors, or other literary professionals to support your proposed session.
The Committee is already working on the following ideas. If you have any suggestions or would be willing to participate in any of these sessions, let us know.
• Returns and Co-Op
• Using Social Media
• Using Edelweiss
• Display & Merchandising Ideas
• Events- outside the box venues, cross promotion, partnerships, etc.
PNBA MUST RECEIVE EDUCATION PROPOSALS AND
SUPPORTING INFORMATION BY FRIDAY, June 30.
The Education Committee traditionally prioritizes presentations for booksellers that offer direct advice and instruction that can be immediately and directly applied to the operations of their stores. Sales pitch presentations that are perceived to promote just one business solution or service are discouraged. We request that all sessions promote an atmosphere of cooperation among literary entities.
WE ARE NOT INTERESTED IN PROPOSALS THAT INSTRUCT AUTHORS OR PRESSES HOW TO PUBLISH, PROMOTE, OR SELL BOOKS THROUGH AMAZON OR OTHER CHANNELS THAT COMPETE WITH THE INDEPENDENT BOOKSTORE MARKET.
Committee members will contact presenters via email to schedule sessions and secure details for production of the show program, show signage, and classroom set-up.
If you would like to propose an educational session for the show, please complete this brief Education Proposal form. PNBA sincerely wishes for proposals from all positions and roles within the industry. More voices. More representation. More ideas!
